The United Women in Faith (UWF) at Bethel Methodist is a small group of ladies who are mission-minded. The UWF was created to help support missions outside of the general budget and workings of the church. This allows the women to work with all different sized missions around the world and locally, without having to take money out of their church’s general budget.
Our particular UWF group is called JOY Circle. We generally meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the lower part of the Chapel. We share a portion of the UWF program and then plan how we will carry out particular mission endeavors. There are some months where the meeting will change. That info will be in the bulletin and will go out via eNews.
Some general things we do throughout the year include our Ladies Tea, support the mission team with a bake sale at their Fish Fry, increase our own spending budget with a bake sale at the Bethel Men’s BBQ and Chicken Fry each year, we provide JOY Boxes of Hugs at Christmas for those who need a lift and a hug, and an occasional Mission Lunch & Learn. And we provide dinner and personal engagement for residents at Calvary Refuge Center. Basically if a need comes up, or a special mission we need to tap into and work with, we do it.
Our funding comes from the bake sales and also from the pledges/offerings of those who come to our meetings. The rule is, we must give our money away every year and start over! So, in January, we enjoy deciding how we’ll divide up the gifts that have come in and then we send the dollars off in God’s name.
